Our people are our greatest resource. Together they provide an appreciable difference in customer relations by sharing knowledge and expertise, fully understanding the challenges the customers meet on a daily basis and providing products and services our customers have grown to depend on over the last several decades.
We pride ourselves on the continuity we are able to offer our customers – a direct result of the loyalty and commitment of our team members. Our management team boasts some 150 years of combined service to Northern Metalic. We are equally proud to acknowledge that the majority of our staff has been with us in excess of 15 years. From the beginning, we have remained successful by surrounding ourselves with highly engaged and competent individuals familiar with the unique demands of the geographical areas where they work and live.
What our employees are saying about Northern Metalic:
In March 2010, Dave and son Kyle joined forces with Northern Metalic Alberta to open Metalic Safety Supply Ltd. – a business dedicated to providing friendly service and making customers our number one priority. Metalic Safety is more then just a safety store. We’re a local, family-run business that understands the area of Fort Nelson and our customers’ needs. Dave Andrews, our General Manager has lived and worked in the area since 1977 and recognized some time ago that Fort Nelson was in need of a fully stocked store specializing in safety and industrial products. Today we carry everything from safety glasses to Carhartt work wear to tools and hoses and if we don’t have it, we’ll find it for you.

My career started with Northern Metalic when I was 21 years old. For the last 18 years I’ve been part of a team that has seen the company grow to be a leading supplier in the MRO industry. The extensive range of products we supply coupled with the variety of customers we serve is mind boggling. I thrive on the fast-paced industry and thoroughly enjoy being a part of a this experienced team.

Fred Boychuk joined Northern Metalic in February of 1981 at the new Grande Prairie location on Wapiti Road. At that time Fred was an eager young man of 27 and he and wife Sandy were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their baby – Melisa.
Ten years prior Fred had left the farm for Fairview College where he began studying diesel mechanics. Soon after he moved to Grimshaw and joined Paps Trucking. From there he went on to Union Tractor and it was there that he began to hone his selling skills. Those skills combined with the strong work ethic he developed from years on the family farm made him an obvious choice for NM. Fred was enthusiastic about his work and his ever-present responsibility to customer service was not overlooked. His NM experience included a stint inside of Pro Tool Supply and involved learning every aspect of the business from warehouse to purchasing. In 1991 he was promoted to opening the new location in Peace River and he has been overseeing operations there ever since.
Fred is still the first to arrive in the morning and the last to leave at night. He is on call and maintains that the business principles that have guided our success are what keep us alive today – service the heck out of the customer! Freddy is genuinely invested in every customer that walks through the door. And, he is invested in his community. The entire family has remained active in fastball, coaching, slow pitch and golf in both GP and Peace River. Fred’s dedication to this company and our people is commendable. We thank Fred and Sandy for over 35 years of commitment and friendship!
My journey started August 1998 with Northern Metalic Sales, unknowing at the time of my hire, I later found out that my grandfather helped set my career path in motion. My grandfather was a regular customer, he had made a lasting impression with some of the staff, that in turn gave me the opportunity to be involved in this organization. Well nearly 20 years have passed since I have started.
There have been various jobs around the store from cutting the grass to doing maintenance around the building. Graduated from being an expert grasscutter (cutting grass is still a good gig, do it from time to time) to a position in shipping & receiving, with some staff changes I advanced to inside sales, worked the counter for a few years. Until there was an opportunity for an outside sales role that came available in 2001. From 2001 to 2010 I was hitting the road, knocking on doors. October 2010 took on the role of the branch manager, have been in that position for six-plus years.
What keeps me here, well it’s really a combination of components that offer the value for me. First and foremost our customers are essential to our success, I’m thankful for the lasting relationships that have been created along the way. The other equally important component is simply put the company I work for, that translates to our people here locally, at our other branches, head office, sister companies and affiliated businesses. Our strength is our people!
I was recruited by the Metalic Team as a branch manager for the Edson Branch in February of 1996, and I really wish I had made the change earlier. The Metalic team has proven to be a most enjoyable group of people to work with.
Our staff in Edson has a combined total of over 100 years of service with Northern Metalic. With this experience, it makes the job a lot easier, and a more enjoyable place to work at.
When not at work, my wife Sharon and I enjoy an annual Pack Horse Ride in Wilmore Wilderness and the occasional hike with our backpacks. This summer we have a sixteen-day pack horse trip in the Anaheim Lake country in British Columbia, and Northern Metalic has supported this trip with a service award for the years I have worked with them.
The family atmosphere makes working at Northern Metalic a very rewarding place to work.
For the last 18 years that I’ve been with Northern Metalic I’ve held a number of positions – most recently as a member of the outside sales team. I feel secure knowing that I work with a company that continues to grow and thrive regardless of the competitive nature of our industry. While there are many positive things about the company, one of the highlights for me is the fact that it’s a local, family-run business that prides itself on giving back to the community.

It never ceases to amaze me – the lengths that Northern Metalic will go to locate, purchase, and supply specialty products requested by our customers. I started with the company in 1996 and I take pride in both the wide range of products that we supply, as well as the customer service. When asked what we carry, my first reply is “everything from soup to nuts” but then I can’t help but elaborate with a detailed description of the products we stock. I appreciate the personal interest that the company (owners & management) takes in the employees. They have shown that they really care when difficult situations arise! The company is growing and I look forward to growing with them.

My journey with Northern Metalic began in 1995 as a data entry clerk and I am now a purchaser with the company.
I enjoy working for such a well rounded organization. I work with a great group which makes it fun and fulfilling at the same time. At Northern Metalic I’m working in the right place with the right people!

I have worked at Northern Metalic since 1985. What keeps me going to work every day is the positive interaction with the customers and staff. I’m very lucky to be part of a group so dedicated to customer service. It’s all about the customer’s wants and needs. Northern Metalic is a leader in its industry and I have had a wonderful opportunity to grow as the company is growing. Every day there is something new to learn and do. This keeps things fresh and exciting. Northern Metalic is somewhere you can build a career, not just a job. I ‘m looking forward to many more years to come.
