Northern Metalic Sales is a Canadian Independent Wholesale Industrial Distributor based in Grande Prairie, AB with operations across Alberta & BC.
Northern Metalic Sales is part of a larger, diverse group of companies with interests in wholesale distribution, oilfield service & supply, lubricants distribution, land and real estate development, rail construction & transload, and finance.
Overview:
We are currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Category Buyer at our Grande Prairie, AB location.
Duties and Responsibilities:
We’re especially interested in candidates with supply chain or category management experience, though product or industry knowledge in areas like hose, rigging, wire rope, tooling, safety, MRO, fasteners, automotive, or chemicals is also valuable:
- Support the development and implementation of a category management framework.
- Treat your category as a strategic business unit—think creatively to grow profitability.
- Collaborate with the category team to analyze data, set objectives, and develop strategies.
- Contribute to forecasting, purchasing, retail planning, and marketing initiatives.
- Source and purchase products to meet customer needs efficiently.
- Negotiate volume pricing and manage second sourcing.
- Improve inventory management to reduce overstock and obsolescence.
- Work closely with suppliers and customer service team to build relationships and resolve issues. Ongoing supplier evaluation and relationship maintenance.
- Conduct ongoing supplier evaluations and resolve issues as needed.
- Review open orders, backorders, and lost sales reports.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods
- Extended periods of phone work
- Data entry –Computer work
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs (files, file boxes)
- Finger dexterity (Data Entry)
Experience:
- Supply chain experience necessary; category management experience preferred.
- Ability to learn around new product categories.
- Industrial supply or distributor model supply experience preferred.
- Experienced working with and evaluating performance of suppliers.
- Excellent internal and external customer service.
- Knowledge of MS Office including Excel.
- ERP Experience and the ability to learn a new ERP system.
- Logistics, import/export experience is useful but not required.
