Overview:

We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Financial Controller to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. Controller responsibilities will also include financial risk management and ability to manage financial duties for multiple locations.

This position is responsible for managing financial accounting and reporting activities while ensuring they are being performed accurately, efficiently, and in in accordance with established time frames and company and professional standards. It will oversee all accounting duties managing the process of financial statement preparation, providing day to day management of financial reporting and maintaining timely and accurate general ledger records. This position will assist in supervising a team to ensure delegated work is timely, accurate, and delivered on schedule.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Set controls and budgets to mitigate risk and increase return on investments
  • Standardize and maintain a system of accounting records and techniques
  • Conduct internal audits to assess financial status
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations
  • Perform inventory transactions, reconciliations, and analyses
  • Coordinate the preparation of year end data
  • Oversee various account analyses and reconciliations and on-going review of journal entries
  • Ensures diligent record keeping and audit trails
  • Serve as liaison for corporate controllers, external accountants while ensuring financial information is presentable.
  • Develop and document business process and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Interface with all internal departments

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in accounting management or other related fields
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
  • Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experienced required
  • CPA or progress towards completion an asset
  • A strategic mindset
  • A solid understanding of all aspects of accounting, from transaction entry to production of complex financial information
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of organization

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Experience:

  • Accounting: 3 years (preferred)

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Grande Prairie, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
